CDF Inspects 63rd Independence Parade Preparations

The Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, today inspected independence parade preparations at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala.

He congratulated the parade participants, noting that he was impressed with the continued improvement since the new drills were introduced.

The CDF also noted that his proposal to President Yoweri Museveni to hold both Independence Day and Heroes Day celebrations, key national events at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds was approved. He added, however, that other celebrations like Tarehe Sita will continue to be held in different parts of the country.

Since becoming CDF last year, Gen Kainerugaba has been deliberate in improving the parade style, and these inspections show his commitment to high standards. As part of these efforts, one of the latest changes is having female UPDF soldiers to wear skirts instead of trousers during parades.

In 2024, while inspecting preparations for the 62nd Independence Day in Busia, Gen Kainerugaba thanked participants for their efforts, especially in adding new marching styles and military songs.

He also acknowledged the military band for mastering the songs and urged them to maintain the high standard.

During the main celebrations last year, President Museveni thanked the CDF for the reforms, noting that removing many formalities had made the parade shorter and more organised.

The CDF emphasized the importance of military parades, saying they demonstrate national military strength, boost public and soldier morale, and foster unity and discipline through synchronized marching and drill practices.

The 63rd Independence Day will be celebrated at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds under the theme: ’63 Years of Independence: A Reason to Double Our Efforts in Sustaining a United and Progressive Nation’.
