Motorised Infantry Division Receives New Deputy Division Commander

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Motorised Infantry Division has welcomed Colonel Griffin Kantinti Senkubuge as its new Deputy Division Commander. He takes over office from Colonel Esibio Omaria.

While presiding over the handover/takeover ceremony, the Deputy Commander Land Forces, Major General Joseph Ssemwanga, described the change of command as a long-standing UPDF tradition that ensures continuity of leadership and professionalism within the force.

He commended Col Omaria for his dedicated service to the Motorised Infantry Division. He congratulated him upon his selection to attend the National Defence College, saying the course would broaden his understanding of international relations, strategy and national security.

Addressing the incoming Deputy Division Commander, Maj Gen Ssemwanga reminded Col Kantinti that the position carries significant oversight responsibilities, noting that the UPDF leadership places great emphasis on quality service delivery, accountability, discipline, effective utilisation of resources and adherence to the force’s ideological orientation across all formations.

The Motorised Infantry Division Commander, Major General Charles Byanyima, expressed appreciation to the UPDF leadership for its commitment to maintaining continuity of command, professionalism and orderly leadership transitions.

“The emphasis placed on developing competent and mission-oriented leaders has strengthened the operational effectiveness of the UPDF and enabled it to execute its constitutional mandate with excellence. It is for this reason that Col Omaria has been selected for the National Defence College course,” Maj Gen Byanyima said.

In his remarks, Col Omaria expressed gratitude to the UPDF leadership and the Motorised Infantry Division for the trust and support accorded to him during his tenure as Deputy Division Commander.

On his part, Col Kantinti thanked the Chief of Defence Forces and the UPDF strategic leadership for the confidence placed in him to serve as Deputy Division Commander.

The ceremony was attended by the Cantonment Commander Nakasongola, Brigadier General Kosia Kutesa; the Director of Anti-Aircraft, Brigadier General Ali Kasauli; the Commandant of the Uganda Air Force College, Brigadier General Allan Kalanzi; brigade commanders; senior and junior officers; and other guests.
