Maj Gen Moses Rwakitarate, Coordinator of National Vital Assets and Strategic Installations, has assumed the role of Chairman of the newly established Implementation Committee for the Uganda National Military Museum, succeeding Maj Gen Henry Masiko, Joint Staff – Political Commissariat, who led the project team.
At a ceremony held today at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) Headquarters in Mbuya, the Chief of Joint Staff, Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, commended the project team for their efforts in setting up the museum. “The museum will not only tell the history of our country, but also be a source of revenue for the UPDF in form of tourism,” Maj Gen Bakasumba remarked. He pledged his full support to the new team and reminded them that the country expects a high-quality museum that meets international standards.
Maj Gen Masiko, the outgoing project team chairperson, reported significant progress in the work, highlighting that the National Military Museum will showcase Uganda’s military history from colonial times to the present day, including the National Resistance Army and the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF). He emphasised the strategic location of the museum in Katonga, along the Masaka-Kampala Highway, an area significant in Uganda’s military history due to its association with liberation battles.
Maj Gen Rwakitarate, the new chairperson of the implementation committee, acknowledged the founders of the project, particularly the late Lt Gen Pecos Kutesa, for their initiative and pledged to take up the responsibility for the betterment of the museum. He encouraged all UPDF members to support the project for the museum’s success.
The ceremony was attended by the Director of Political Education Land Force, Col Anatoli Nuwagira, Col Okei Rukogota, Ms. Harriet Nabunya, and other senior UPDF officers.
