Brig Gen Keita Succeeds Brig Gen Olupot As Joint Staff Training And Doctrine

Brigadier General Wycliffe Keita has officially taken over as the Joint Staff Training and Doctrine Command (JS TRADOC), succeeding Brig Gen Alex Olupot.

The handover ceremony took place today at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) headquarters in Mbuya.

Brig Gen Olupot now assumes his new role as Commandant of the National Defence College, Uganda.

Presiding over the ceremony, Chief of Joint Staff Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba reaffirmed the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces’ (UPDF) commitment to enhancing military training, which he described as central to operational effectiveness. “Training is the backbone of what we do, and we shall give this department whatever it needs to ensure it effectively prepares Ugandans to the required standard,” said Maj Gen Bakasumba.

He also urged Brig Gen Keita to uphold integrity and resist any form of misconduct. “Observe zero tolerance to corruption and enforce the highest level of training to protect this country. Do not let anyone lure you into wrongdoing; it is destructive,” he warned.

Brig Gen Olupot expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Commander-in-Chief, for the trust placed in him, and acknowledged the support of Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and the UPDF leadership.

Encouraging his successor to remain mission-focused, he said: “He has the capacity to take the department to greater heights, and I have full confidence he will deliver.”

In response, Brig Gen Keita pledged to serve with loyalty and resolve. “I am deeply honoured to take over the office of JS TRADOC. The lessons from my previous assignments will guide me in this new role. I will perform my duties with unwavering commitment,” he said.

Before this appointment, Brig Gen Keita served as Commandant of the Uganda Military Academy, Kabamba.

Among those in attendance were Brig Gen James Kinalwa (Joint Staff Human Resource), Brig Gen Robert Mugabe (Joint Staff Finance), and senior and junior officers of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces.
