The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) troops at Apieta checkpoint in Lamwo District
intercepted a man and his wife in possession of an illegal firearm this afternoon at around 1400hrs.
The suspects, identified as Olanya Golden Ricky (46), a resident of Ngora Village, Pobel Parish, Lukung Sub-County, Lamwo District, and Atoo Jennifer (28), a resident of Amero Village, Lukili Parish, Aceba Sub-County, Lamwo District, were travelling from Amuru District to Lamwo District on a Bajaj motorcycle, registration number UGG 453U.
Upon their arrest, security forces recovered a numberless pistol, which was in their possession without any rounds of ammunition.
Thd Brigade Commander Lt Col Ipolito Mubangizi commended the local community in Northern Uganda for their cooperation with security forces in the fight against criminal gangs.
He reassured the public that the UPDF remains committed to protecting the people and their property.
Authorities are conducting further investigations into the matter.
