NDC-U Delegation Visits Algeria’s Central Army Museum On Strategic Study Tour

A delegation from the National Defence College – Uganda (NDC-U) Intake 4/2025–2026 has conducted an academic visit to Algeria, touring the historic Central Army Museum “Late President Chadli Bendjedid” as part of efforts to strengthen defence diplomacy and strategic learning between the two countries.

The delegation, led by NDC-U Commandant, Brigadier General Alex Olupot, visited the museum situated in El Madania, Algiers, near the iconic Maqam Echahid. The visit provided senior Ugandan officers with an opportunity to examine Algeria’s military history, liberation struggle, and modern defence evolution.

Brig Gen Olupot commended the professionalism of the People’s National Army (ANP) and praised the Algerian people for preserving their revolutionary heritage and military history.

During a guided tour, the delegation explored exhibits spanning Algeria’s ancient and Islamic military heritage, including maritime victories associated with legendary naval commander Rais Hammidou, as well as leadership narratives that shaped national unity and resistance.

A major highlight of the visit was the National Liberation War exhibition, which documents Algeria’s 1954–1962 struggle for independence. The display features original documents, weapons, photographs, and reconstructed revolutionary assembly sites that illustrate the sacrifices made during the anti-colonial struggle.

Speaking during the reception, the Director of the Central Army Museum, Colonel Mustapha Hezazi, commended the leadership of NDC-U for promoting strategic-level military education and exposing senior officers to diverse global defence doctrines.

Col Hezazi underscored the importance of defence diplomacy, academic exchange, and knowledge sharing among African nations, noting that the visit reflected the strong and enduring cooperation between Uganda and Algeria.

“The visit of such a prestigious institution as NDC-U reflects the strong and enduring bonds of cooperation that unite our two nations,” he said.

Accompanying Brig Gen Olupot were College Secretary Brig Gen Tweheyo, Senior Directing Staff Brig Gen Muhwezi, College Coordinator Col Arigye, and Head of Postgraduate Studies Prof. Murindwa Rutanga.
