He said the project aligns with the strategic guidance of the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to transform UPDF training schools into modern, healthy and dignified centres for producing a professional force.
“Sanitation is a cornerstone of military discipline. A healthy soldier is a ready soldier. When you improve welfare, you directly improve morale, discipline and operational readiness. That is the vision of our CDF,” he said, speaking on behalf of the Chief of Staff Land Forces.
“Use the facility properly. Huge sums of money have been spent by the Government to put it up. Make sure that it is used effectively so that other intakes find it in good shape for use,” he said.
Brig Gen Hyeroba also commended the leadership of the School of Artillery and Air Defence and Olilim Basic Military Training School for maintaining clean, green environments, encouraging them to plant more trees suited to the region’s climate.
The school’s Commandant, Colonel James Otowa Abelun, said the new facilities would improve sanitation and access to clean water for troops.
The ceremony was attended by the Commander of Olilim Basic Military Training School, Colonel Joseph Elamu Okello, commanders, instructors and other officers and personnel from the two institutions.
