CDF Drill Competition

Motorized Infantry Division Impress Ahead of Chief of Defence Forces Drill Competition Finals

The Motorized Infantry Division delivered an impressive performance at the Nakasongola Air Force Ground in preparation for the fourth coming final Chief of Defence Forces Drill Competition slated to take place next month on 12 May 2025 at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

With striking precision, coordination, and discipline, the Motorized Infantry earned a commendation from the Deputy Chief of Defence, Lt Gen Sam Okiding, who described their execution as “the best so far.”

Lt Gen Okiding cautioned against copying during the drill competition, stating that any participant caught doing so would be disqualified. He emphasized that each unit must demonstrate mastery of drills independently.

He said that while spectators may laugh or clap whether one fails or succeeds, it is the participant who puts in the strength, knowledge, and effort, and that “the joy comes only after being told it was good.”

Maj Gen Charles Byanyima, Commander Motorized Infantry Division, highlighted that the CDF drills reflect the significant progress the UPDF has made in upgrading infrastructure, enhancing combatant welfare, and fostering innovation, urging all personnel to stay committed and maintain momentum, adding, “If we keep this candle burning, the sky is the limit.”

Brig Gen James Muhwezi, the Commandant of the Air Force College, stressed that drills are crucial for instilling discipline, improving command and control, and harmonizing actions among soldiers, noting, “This level of readiness is essential and timely. Drill is a critical component of military professionalism.”

Present were: Maj Gen David Ssimbwa, Deputy Commander Air Force; Brig Gen Ali Kasawuli, Director for Strategic and Advisory Services; and Brig Gen Allan Kalanzi, Chief Instructor at Uganda Air Force College, among others.
