UPDF Tips Students Of Greenhill Academy On The Value Of Education In Professionalising UPDF

Students of Greenhill Academy Secondary School have been reminded about the value and importance of education in the realization of the vision of professionalism of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces.

Representing the UPDF, the team from the Office of the Defence Spokesperson led by Captain David Kamya and Captain Paul Kahuma Bbala had today joined different companies and organizations to engage the students during their Careers’ Day.

Capt Kamya said that UPDF has over the years evolved from a guerilla army into a professional army that attracts academically qualified citizens who are mandated with defending the territorial boundaries of Uganda and its citizens.

He reminded the students that unlike in the past where recruitment to the military was based on one’s physical appearance and other segregations, the UPDF recruits across the board regardless of one’s appearance.

The students were also challenged on the evolving technological dynamics that have changed the war theatre and require technology to be executed.

He also reminded the students of the value of hard work, discipline, training and expanding their knowledge to progress in their careers just like the UPDF where promotions are based on one’s training and professional capabilities.

Mr. Wilberforce Kamengo, the Headteacher of Greenhill Academy Secondary School thanked the various exhibitors and companies that participated in the exhibition and said this will go a long way in guiding the students in their career choices
