Minister Oboth Oboth Calls for Enhanced Cooperation with Chinese Corporation

The Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth, has underscored the need for strengthening business cooperation between Uganda and the China National Precision Machinery Import and Export Corporation (CPMIEC).

He made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation from CPMIEC that was held at the Ministry of Defence headquarters, Mbuya. This follows earlier discussions initiated by the Minister of State for Defence in charge of Veteran Affairs, Hon. Huda Oleru during her visit to China.

The meeting focused on exploring potential projects within Uganda’s defence industries that could benefit from collaboration with China. Hon. Oboth expressed gratitude to the Chinese delegation for their interest in partnering with Uganda and assured them of a mutually beneficial relationship.

“I want to assure you that the Government of Uganda and China enjoy strong and cordial relations. This ministry enjoys a good relationship with China,” Hon. Oboth said.

The Vice President of CPMIEC, Mr. Yu Tao, expressed his gratitude to Hon. Oleru for her efforts in strengthening Uganda-China relations. He highlighted that their collaboration with Uganda began over 14 years ago and emphasized their anticipation of a new chapter of cooperation with the Ugandan government.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Ms. Rosette Byengoma; the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Lt Gen Sam Okiding; Chief of Joint Staff, Maj Gen Jackson Bakasumba; Generals and Senior UPDF officers; and representatives from CPMIEC, Wang Xinyue, and Hu Lei.
