Lt Gen Elwelu Stresses Mutual Benefits Between UPDF And KDF

The Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Lt Gen Peter Elwelu has hailed the Commandant of National Defence College, Kenya for choosing Uganda as a destination for their study for course 26/2023-2024.

 

“For us as Uganda, we value this relationship not only between the two countries but also the sister armies(Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces and Kenya Defence Forces). We have benefitted a lot from one another,” said Lt Gen Elwelu.

 

He made the remarks today during a meeting held at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters with members of faculty and course participants from the National Defence College, Kenya who are on a study tour in Uganda.

 

Lt Gen Elwelu urged security sector personnel to play an active role to ensure that their respective countries and the region remain peaceful to guarantee security for the prosperity of the people.

 

He encouraged the course participants to research comprehensively during their tour of study in the country.

 

Colonel Nehemiah Kemei a course participant said the tour to the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs is part of their study to understand the socio-economic, political and cultural aspects that underpin the relationship between Uganda and Kenya. “We have visited Ministry of Defence to understand the defence partnership between the two great countries and the objective is to understand how we can deepen this relationship,” said Col Kemei.

 

He added that the NDC-Kenya course focuses on preparing participants to be senior policymakers and advisors within their respective countries.

 

The meeting was attended by the Chief of Personnel and Administration, Brig Gen James Kinalwa, Chief of Training and Recruitment, Brig Gen Matthew Gureme, Brig Gen Abdul Rugumayo and Senior Officers of the UPDF.
