Gen Kainerugaba in China for High Level Military Engagements

The Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba on Tuesday arrived in Beijing, China, for high level military engagements.

On Wednesday, the CDF and his delegation visited China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC), a Chinese state-owned defence company with a core business in aviation products and technology.

The CDF was taken on a guided tour of the cutting edge technology in various aviation equipment by the Vice President of the facility.

During his official visit, Gen Kainerugaba is also expected to attend a military conference alongside his counterparts from various countries and also hold talks with his Chinese counterpart among other high-level meetings.

Gen Kainerugaba was on Tuesday received at the airport by Chinese military generals and senior officers.

The CDF’s delegation includes Major General Dan Kakono, the Artillery Division Commander, and Major General Felix Busizoori, the 4th Division Commander.

The visit is an opportunity to further strengthen military ties between Uganda and China. Both countries have maintained warm bilateral and military relations, which include cooperation in areas such as military training and peace support operations.

This engagement continues the historic ties between the Republic of Uganda and the People’s Republic of China that have been cultivated since 1986.

Since assuming the role of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Kainerugaba has actively pursued enhanced military cooperation with Uganda’s allies, undertaking diplomatic visits to countries such as Russia, Rwanda, Algeria, Mozambique, and the DRC among others.

In Kampala, Gen Kainerugaba has also held high-level meetings with foreign military representatives from France, the United Kingdom, the United States of America among others.
