Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), arrived at Kigali International Airport today, ahead of His Excellency President Paul Kagame’s swearing-in ceremony on Sunday. He was warmly received by his Rwandan counterpart, Gen Mubarak Muganga, and other senior officers of the Rwandan Defence Forces (RDF).
Accompanying Gen Kainerugaba are Maj Gen James Birungi and Brig Gen Richard Karemire. Notable figures Alexander Akandwanaho and Andrew Mwenda are also part of his entourage.
During his stay in Kigali, Gen Kainerugaba, who serves as Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, is expected to engage in high-level discussions with President Kagame and Gen Muganga.
His visit follows his instrumental role in resolving a standoff that had strained relations between Uganda and Rwanda, restoring business and movement between the two countries.
